Orbis is actively seeking a senior researcher-engineer to lead applied research in AI focus areas, framing problems, building prototypes, and turning results into production capabilities for mission-critical intelligence applications. The role involves collaboration with product and engineering teams and up to 20% travel for conferences and customer engagement.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in applied research or a relevant MS/PhD, strong Python skills, and proven ability to run rigorous

Competenze

3+ years of applied research or research-engineering experience, or an MS/PhD in CS, ML, or related field with equivalent applied work.
Strong Python engineering skills, producing research code readable and reusable by others.
Experience designing and running experiments with actionable conclusions and defendable methodology.
Depth in at least one Orbis AI focus area: agentic AI, knowledge representation, dynamic ontologies, autonomous analysis, or high‑performance analytics.
Working knowledge of modern LLM and retrieval methods and their practical limitations.
Clear technical writing that makes results readable for engineers and non-specialists.
Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Frame research problems from real product and mission gaps and survey existing work before building.
Build prototypes at appropriate fidelity to answer the question.
Run rigorous experiments with baselines, ablations, held-out evaluation and error analysis.
Build and maintain datasets and evaluation harnesses needed by your area.
Report results clearly, including negative results, and make defensible recommendations to continue, pivot, or stop.
Transition validated results into production alongside product engineers and avoid handing off only a notebook.
Contribute to the scientific community through publications, open-source releases, and collaborations.
