Job summary

Anthropic is seeking an Applied AI Research Engineer to translate large language model capabilities into customer-facing products and enablement. You will build demos, evals, and prototypes, engage with strategic customers to solve novel challenges, and feed insights back to Product and Research to inform roadmap decisions.

You will embed with product teams to develop deep technical expertise, build demos/evals/prototypes, and act as the technical GTM handshake for model and product launches.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a technical role with exposure to customers or end users.
• Strong programming language proficiency.
• Meaningful experience building with large language models—shipping LLM-powered products or integrating models into production systems.
• Experience designing evaluations, building prototypes, or developing technical enablement for complex products.
• Ability to quickly build domain expertise and be a credible technical voice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including conveying complex topics to exec-level stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Embed with product teams to become the field’s technical expert on new products and capabilities.
• Lead technical go-to-market activities for model and product launches: early testing, field readiness assessments, and lifecycle capability education.
• Build demos, evaluations, and prototypes that showcase customer-relevant capabilities and define target performance in important domains.
• Create enablement materials (playbooks, training sessions, reference architectures) with Technical Enablement.
• Engage hands-on with strategic customers to solve novel challenges and package learnings into scalable approaches.
• Synthesize insights from customer engagements and collaborate with Product and Research to influence roadmaps.
• Partner with Sales and Applied AI teams to support high-value accounts needing specialized domain knowledge.
• Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops, implementation support, and research collaboration.

The Applied AI Research Engineer discovers what Anthropic’s models and products can do, proves value with real customers, and equips Applied AI and field teams to sell and deliver those capabilities. Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in a technical role (e.g., Software Engineer, Technical PM, Forward Deployed Engineer, AI startup founder) with exposure to customers or end users.
• Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in at least one programming language.
• Meaningful experience building with large language models—shipping LLM‑powered products, developing agents or workflows, or integrating models into production systems.
• Experience designing evaluations, building prototypes, or developing technical enablement for complex products.
• Ability to quickly build domain expertise and be a credible technical voice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including conveying complex topics to diverse audiences and exec‑level stakeholders.
• Ability to operate in ambiguity and adapt across different domains to find simple, effective solutions.
• Collaborative, service‑oriented mindset and passion for safe, beneficial AI.

Compensation

• Annual Salary: $300,000 — $400,000 USD (as stated in posting).

Logistics

• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic’s offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.
• Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they do sponsor visas in many cases and retain immigration legal support.
