Job summary

Scale AI is seeking a Frontier Agent Engineer (Applied AI) to bridge cutting‑edge research with production deployments for enterprise customers. You will design and deploy intelligent systems that combine frontier models with structured data, retrieval, and traditional ML to power production workflows.

You will own the experimentation lifecycle, evaluate models and prompts, and build agent architectures with guardrails and safety in mind, ensuring reliable and scalable AI in enterprise

Qualifications

• 4 years of software engineering, machine learning, or applied AI experience.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience building production AI systems using LLMs.
• Experience with modern AI tooling, including OpenAI, Claude, MCP, agent frameworks, vector databases, or retrieval systems.
• Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals and modern language models.
• Experience designing or evaluating AI systems using quantitative metrics.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with enterprise customers.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy production AI agents that leverage LLMs, reasoning, retrieval, memory, and tool use.
• Architect intelligent systems combining LLMs, ML, structured knowledge, and enterprise data into reliable workflows.
• Engineer customer intelligence layers, retrieval pipelines, memory systems, and knowledge representations for large heterogeneous data.
• Develop multi-agent systems coordinating reasoning, planning, tool execution, and human oversight.
• Translate frontier AI research into production systems by evaluating models, prompts, reasoning paradigms, and architectures.
• Own the full experimentation lifecycle from hypothesis to production rollout.
• Design evaluation frameworks using offline benchmarks, online experiments, and human evaluation.
• Run experiments and ablation studies to understand contributions of prompts, retrieval, and memory.
• Evaluate new frontier models for quality, latency, and cost improvements.
• Develop confidence estimation and continuous learning systems using real-world feedback.
