Job summary

AMD in Santa Clara, CA is seeking Applied AI Engineers to collaborate with hardware and software teams on AI-for-engineering initiatives. You will design AI-assisted workflows that generate candidates, validate correctness, measure quality, and accelerate real product problems.

You will work across design optimization, verification, simulation, and tooling, turning complex workflows into repeatable AI-powered processes while emphasizing correctness, validation, and measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE/EE/ML or equivalent practical experience.
• Master's degree preferred; PhD a plus for AI/systems/EDA or hardware/software co-design.
• Strong software engineering in Python and a systems language (C++, C, HIP, CUDA, or Rust).
• Experience building AI, ML, agentic, automation, or developer tooling systems for technical users.
• Ability to work with complex engineering tools, logs, tests, benchmark harnesses, and validation workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build applied AI workflows for hardware/software priorities including optimization, verification, debugging, simulation, and automation.
• Convert manual engineering processes into structured tasks with inputs, candidate generation, validation, logging, and reproducible comparisons.
• Partner with domain owners to define success metrics such as correctness, performance, resource usage, quality, latency, and engineer time saved.
• Develop tools that let AI agents use compilers, simulators, formal checks, profilers, benchmark harnesses, ticket systems, and engineering knowledge sources.
• Build human-in-the-loop workflows for tasks requiring annotated data or expert judgment.
• Improve model and agent performance through prompts, tool interfaces, retrieval, evaluation datasets, graders, and structured feedback.
• Work with research and infrastructure teams to generalize repeated patterns into reusable platforms, harnesses, dashboards, and data assets.
• Communicate progress through measurable outcomes, demos, concise technical writeups, and clear stakeholder updates.
