Job summary

Day One Partners is hiring an Applied AI Engineer to build AI products for complex financial workflows. You will work across LLMs, retrieval, agents, and evaluation, taking ideas from research and customer feedback through to production.

You will own production systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability, with meaningful ownership over AI direction and direct customer feedback driving improvements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in machine learning, AI research, or applied AI engineering.
• Experience with LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, retrieval systems, embeddings, and AI evaluation.
• Interest or experience in financial markets, investment processes, or quantitative finance.
• Ability to turn AI research into useful products.
• Full-stack experience with React, TypeScript, Python, Node, or similar technologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy AI agents and retrieval systems that understand financial context
• Extract and synthesize insights from PDFs, emails, presentations, and other unstructured sources
• Develop knowledge graphs that capture financial relationships, entities, and market dynamics
• Create evaluation frameworks for investment research, due diligence, and portfolio monitoring use cases
• Improve traceability between AI outputs and their primary sources
• Test new approaches to LLM orchestration, context management, and retrieval
• Own production systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability
