Distyl AI is seeking a Research Engineer to bridge frontier AI research with production systems that deliver real business value. You will design and implement compound AI data systems and run experiments in customer environments.

You will collaborate with AI Researchers, AI Engineers, and customer stakeholders to turn new techniques into robust, measurable, production‑ready solutions. A strong data engineering background and a bias toward metrics are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience building data pipelines and evaluation datasets for AI systems.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with data modeling fundamentals.
• Research‑oriented builder; comfortable with data quality, structure and representation.
• AI‑native working style using AI tools to accelerate coding and analysis.
• Ability to work with messy enterprise datasets and changing requirements.
• Bias toward measurement with metrics, evaluations and experiments.
• Customer environment readiness and ownership mentality.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data systems powering reliable AI workflows.
• Develop pipelines for collecting, cleaning, transforming, labeling, and evaluating data.
• Create data quality frameworks to identify coverage gaps, ambiguity, drift, and leakage.
• Build tools to turn raw customer data into usable context for retrieval and execution.
• Partner with AI Researchers and AI Engineers to understand data quality impacts.
• Develop synthetic data, annotation, and feedback‑loop strategies.
• Analyze customer workflows to determine information needs and representations.
• Communicate data assumptions, risks, and tradeoffs to internal teams and customers.
