Job description

About Anthropic

Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role:

As an Applied AI team member at Anthropic, you will be a cybersecurity specialist working alongside our enterprise account teams to help the world's largest organizations use Claude to secure the systems and software they build and run. You'll combine deep security expertise with customer-facing skills to help customers along their cybersecurity journey with Claude, wherever they are starting from, and wherever they want to go.

Enterprise security teams are at very different stages with AI: some are running their first experiments, others are ready to put Claude to work across their security program. They also span every kind of organization, each with its own priorities: regulated industries like financial services, insurance, and healthcare; strategic accounts like semiconductors, focused on protecting IP, securing industrial control systems, and handling export controls; and digital natives and public sector agencies with their own threat models. You'll meet customers where they are, help identify where Claude can take on meaningful security work, and guide them from early pilots to lasting, production security workloads. Along the way, you'll help security leaders explain the value of this work in terms their executives care about.

Working closely with our Sales, Product, Research and Engineering teams, you'll guide customers from technical discovery through deployment, and you'll work with the partners in the security ecosystem — ISVs, systems integrators, and managed security providers — that already serve these customers, enabling them where they own the engagement rather than competing with them.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with account executives and account architects to understand a customer’s security program, identify where Claude can take on real security work, and translate that into a technical plan and a business case
  • Serve as the primary security-domain technical advisor to large enterprise customers, from discovery and initial evaluation through deployment, coordinating internally across multiple teams and stakeholders to drive customer success
  • Move customers from one-time code scanning to sustained security workloads: application security embedded in the software development lifecycle, continuous automated penetration testing, alert triage and investigation, and threat intelligence that answers "does this new vulnerability affect us, and where"
  • Build and maintain the reference implementations, harnesses, and evaluation approaches customers use to run these workloads with Claude, and help customers adapt them to their own environments and controls
  • Design and run workshops and hands-on sessions where customer security teams engage directly with Claude on their own code and workflows
  • Work with security industry partners on shared accounts, enabling them to deliver Claude-powered security outcomes and drawing a clear line between what Anthropic delivers directly and what partners deliver
  • Deliver technical content across the full range of audiences: deep dives with security engineers and appsec teams, and value- and risk-focused conversations with CISOs and executives
  • Define and track how deeply each security workload is adopted across your accounts, and work with our Product and Engineering teams on the telemetry needed to measure it
  • Write the playbooks and best practices for each security workload that the rest of the field can reuse, including how Claude complements the security tooling customers already own
  • Identify common patterns and feature gaps and contribute insights back to our Product and Engineering teams
  • Develop reference customers who can speak to the value they are realizing
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops, technical deep dives, and relationship building
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the latest developments in LLM capabilities and in the security landscape, including the new classes of vulnerabilities and attacks that frontier models surface
You may be a good fit if you have:
  • 5+ years of experience in security roles, with hands‑on depth in at least two of: application security and secure SDLC, offensive security and penetration testing, detection and response, or threat intelligence and vulnerability management
  • Experience in technical customer‑facing roles such as Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, security consultant, or Technical Account Manager, or in a security team where you had to win investment from leadership
  • Experience working with large enterprise customers, navigating complex buying cycles involving multiple stakeholders, and working alongside the vendors and partners already in the account
  • The ability to explain the value and risk of security work to CISOs and executives, and to translate between security teams, engineering teams, and the business
  • Comfort with Python and with CI/CD and cloud environments, and direct experience integrating tooling into an engineering workflow
  • Familiarity with common LLM frameworks and tools, and practical experience using LLMs for security work — code review, vulnerability discovery, triage, or investigation
  • Excitement for engaging in cross‑organizational collaboration, working through trade‑offs, and balancing competing priorities
  • A love of teaching, mentoring, and helping others succeed
  • Passion for thinking creatively about how to use technology in a way that is safe and beneficial, and ultimately furthers the goal of advancing safe AI systems
Strong candidates may also have:
  • Experience building or operating security automation at scale — scanning pipelines, triage systems, or detection engineering
  • Experience serving a broad range of customers and the security priorities that come with each: regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, or healthcare; strategic accounts such as semiconductors, where the concerns are protecting IP, securing industrial control systems, and handling export controls; and digital‑native and public sector organizations
  • Experience working with or at a security ISV, systems integrator, or managed security provider
  • Contributions to open‑source security tooling, published research, or CVEs to your name

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary: $240,000 — $315,000 USD

Logistics

Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience

Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long‑term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
