Job summary

The HAHN Automation Group is seeking a seasoned engineer to develop technically feasible equipment concepts from customer specifications. You will work with Sales to translate requirements into design, estimate labor and material costs, and prepare quotations.

Responsibilities include coordinating across departments, validating risks, and supporting negotiations. Domestic and international travel is required, with a strong emphasis on customer-focused engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in applications or mechanical engineering with 3+ years in estimating, project management, or sales administration in a technical industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical concepts based on customer requirements provided by Sales.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility with automation, manufacturing, or R&D groups.
  • Prepare system layouts, configuration concepts, and preliminary drawings.
  • Analyze customer specifications and requirement documents while quoting.
  • Provide technical input for cost calculations and validate labor/material assumptions.
  • Prepare technical documentation for quotations and scope boundaries.
  • Identify technical risks, constraints, and optimization opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure concept alignment and smooth quote-to-cash transition.
  • Provide clarifications during commercial negotiations.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Develop technical concepts based on customer requirements provided by Sales Departments
  • Evaluate technical feasibility in collaboration with specialist departments (e.g., automation, manufacturing, R&D)
  • Prepare system layouts, configuration concepts, and preliminary engineering drawings
  • Analyze customer specifications and requirement documents (provided by Sales)
  • Provide technical input for cost calculation and validate material & engineering effort assumptions
  • Prepare technical documentation for quotations (technical descriptions, assumptions, scope boundaries)
  • Identify technical risks, constraints and optimization opportunities
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure concept alignment & smooth transition into quote to cash process – stays contact person throughout the project
  • Provide internal technical clarifications during commercial negotiation phase
  • Travel required, including overnight travel – potentially domestic and international
Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: 5+ years of experience in applications or mechanical engineering with three years of experience in estimating, project management, or sales administration in a technical industry

Additional skills:

  • Ability to create technically feasible, economical equipment concepts from customer specifications consisting of varying levels of detail
  • Ability to identify and account for potential risks (technical, budget, schedule, etc.) that may be encountered during the execution of quoted projects
  • Ability to obtain and process information from internal and external resources in order to accurately estimate the labor and material costs required to execute projects being quoted
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of our customers’ products and manufacturing processes
  • An understanding of the capabilities and benefits of the equipment being quoted—and the ability to effectively communicate those benefits to customers
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple customer opportunities simultaneously in an environment where priorities are constantly changing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A strong customer service mindset, considering customer needs and concerns in decision-making
  • A disciplined, goal-oriented personality with the creativity to provide and work with new ideas and approaches to design and processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, and 2D/3D design software
  • Flexibility to travel, domestic and international, and work additional hours as needed to meet project requirements

Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • As a member of HAHN Automation Group, applicants must be able to interact safely in a manufacturing environment. This includes full body mobility with the ability to bend, stoop, climb, and lift or move 25 lbs. of weight
  • The ability to walk within restricted areas of the company manufacturing plant
  • Professional conduct in regards to hygiene and dress
  • The ability to read and prepare business documents as well as conduct business over the telephone in a sometimes-loud environment
  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The ability to travel to customer, supplier, and/or inter-company sites via vehicle or airplane (both domestic and international)
  • Valid driver’s license with driving record of acceptable risk as defined by HAHN Automation Group US’s insurance company
  • Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States now and in the future without employment visa sponsorship
