Job description

The Applications Engineer assists the Applications Manager in the implementation, administration, maintenance, and support of assigned applications within a business unit portfolio, to include all technical processes and integrations related to that application. This position frequently analyzes, designs, and implements technical processes and works with Business Owners to aid in the design of solutions. Responsibilities include providing the highest escalation path available to business units; managing application vendor support cases; and assisting in reviewing our application’s technical implementations for compliance with our standards for risk mitigation, documentation, technical controls and access controls.

Pay Range: $81,673/yr. - $125,843/yr.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborate with a team of IT professionals, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure the department’s success. Assist the Applications Manager with establishing and tracking team KPIs and develop a team culture of continual growth and maturity.
  • Build and maintain positive working relations while collaborating with leadership, technical resources, business owners and vendors to understand and identify opportunities to leverage application functionality.
  • Assist the Applications Manager and business owners with designing business processes that use or integrate with our systems.
  • Serve as the highest level of technical support escalation and maintain technical proficiency for all assigned applications.
  • Utilize workflow tools and applications to design business and technical solutions that streamline operations, improve efficiency, and automate key processes.
  • Adhere to our standards for change management, version management and risk controls necessary to support solutions and mitigate risk.
  • Work closely with the Application Manager, business owners and leadership to prioritize application projects, upgrades and functional changes, acting as the project manager to ensure timely execution without over-committing resources. Ability to assist as a technical expert on projects involving assigned applications, responsible for ensuring the timely completion of tasks.
  • Aid in the creation and review of technical specifications, perform quality control testing, organize user acceptance testing and coordinate deployment plans with all implementations, configuration changes and upgrades of assigned applications. This includes ensuring sign-off by stakeholders for launch, following standards for change management and enforcing best practices to ensure high-quality and sustainable solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation needed for the administration and support of our applications and their integrations, ensuring thoroughness, accuracy, and adherence to our standards for documentation.
  • Be a subject matter expert for assigned applications by offering technical expertise, knowledge, option and recommendations to meet business needs, solve complex technical issues, provide escalated support and resolve unplanned application outages.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices as they relate to assigned applications, their integrations and how we use them.
  • If placed on the Core Applications team, create, maintain and support our core’s proprietary development capabilities, following our standards for change management, version management and risk controls necessary to support solutions and mitigate risk.

  • Project a positive attitude during all contacts with members and team members that is consistent with Credit Union 1’s mission statement and core values.
  • Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy of compliance with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) laws and regulations.
  • Meets the current standards as established for the department or branch in the completion of all assigned duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 4 years experience in a technical, IT role.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working directly with business owners and the organization’s leadership to identify business needs and find solutions.
  • Possess a good understanding of the business processes as they relate to their technical responsibilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills while exercising good judgment.
  • Proven technical experience in managing technical implementation and upgrade projects, including system integrations using APIs, and show that they have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; equivalent technical experience in the industry will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Technical experience in a financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of the applications within the assigned business portfolio, and its integrations.
  • Experience with technical and software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and project management tools.
  • Strong understanding of financial institution business practices that are driven by applications.
