Job summary

Ascent Solar in Thornton, CO is seeking an Application & Supplier Quality Engineer to bridge customers, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and suppliers. You will spend about 70% on applying engineering to translate requirements into manufacturable solutions and 30% on supplier quality, lead times, MOQs and supplier development.

The role requires SolidWorks CAD proficiency, strong documentation, and collaboration across teams to strengthen the supply chain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in application engineering, product development, mechanical design, manufacturing engineering or supplier quality.
• Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
• Ability to translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
• Experience working with suppliers and supplier qualification or development.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturability principles.
• Authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Sales and customers to understand technical requirements, needs and performance objectives.
• Translate requirements into engineering concepts, specifications, drawings and design recommendations.
• Develop, modify and maintain 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks and related CAD tools.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Finance to evaluate design constraints, production requirements, costs and optimization opportunities.
• Assist in developing engineering documentation, BOMs and product definition materials.
• Help resolve technical issues during development, prototyping and production.
• Ensure customer-driven design changes are documented and incorporated into processes.
• Manage and maintain supplier relationships, monitor quality, delivery, lead times and reliability.
• Identify alternate suppliers to reduce risk and support supplier qualification and development.
• Coordinate with Accounting, Engineering, Manufacturing and Leadership on supplier capabilities and requirements.
• Support supplier negotiations regarding technical requirements, quality expectations, lead times and MOQs.
• Maintain supplier documentation and performance data.
