Job summary

Unicorn Biotechnologies is seeking an application scientist to be the scientists’ voice in our engineering development group. You will onboard, train and support clients implementing solutions to accelerate their programs, designing experiments and evaluating platform performance on-site.

You’ll travel to customer sites, deliver demos and technical evaluations, and translate biology problems into actionable engineering feedback. This role offers high autonomy in a fast-growing startup.

Qualifications

• Prior customer-facing experience: field applications, technical support, pilot studies, demos, or training.
• Experience designing experiments within a commercial environment, prioritising speed and efficiency.
• Substantial hands-on mammalian cell culture experience with various cell types.
• Ability to clearly convey viewpoints and data-backed opinions to engineering teams.
• Ability to build credibility with scientists and explain reasoning to technical and non-specialist stakeholders.
• Comfort working with instrumentation and software as a routine part of science.
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally to customer sites.
• Self-motivation and comfort operating with high autonomy in a small team.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experimental workflows to test devices and subsystems and provide feedback to engineering.
• Manage customer projects: pilots, feasibility studies, and onboarding customer protocols to the platform.
• Deliver demonstrations and technical evaluations for prospects at site or on their premises.
• Onboard and train new customers, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides with installed systems.
• Act as scientific escalation point for deployed systems and drive issues to resolution.
