Job summary

Vanguard Group in Malvern is seeking a senior solutions architect to lead architecture, design, and delivery of web-based Debit Card, digital payment, and wallet integration capabilities. You will shape the technical foundation for a greenfield platform and set engineering standards to guide frontend and backend teams toward scalable, secure experiences.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product stakeholders, review designs, and champion CI/CD, automated testing, security, and DevOps

Qualifications

• Eight years of related work experience with at least three years in technology architecture.
• Experience delivering digital payment solutions, including Debit Card and wallet integrations.
• Strong enterprise application architecture and modern front-end skills (React, Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript).
• Backend/API development and integration with third-party platforms and vendor SDKs.
• Experience with GraphQL, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Proven ability to influence technical direction, mentor engineers, and present to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and delivery of web-based Debit Card, digital payment, and wallet integrations.

• Mentor engineers and communicate architecture decisions to stakeholders.

Job description

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, technical design, and delivery of new web-based Debit Card, digital payment, and digital wallet integration capabilities.
• Help establish the technical foundation, architecture patterns, and engineering standards for a greenfield platform, influencing key technology decisions from the ground up.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across modern front-end engineering and enterprise application architecture, guiding the development of scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performing web experiences.
• Partner with Product Managers, Product Architects, Domain Architects, and engineering teams to translate business needs into effective technical solutions and architecture designs.
• Lead the design and integration of payment platforms, Debit Card capabilities, digital wallets, APIs, third-party products, and vendor SDKs.
• Guide application development and backend/API integrations to create seamless, reliable client-facing payment experiences.
• Review technical designs, code, architecture documentation, and engineering deliverables to ensure quality, security, resiliency, maintainability, and alignment with enterprise standards.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex technical issues while driving improvements in application performance, observability, reliability, and operational readiness.
• Champion modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, secure development, Git/GitHub, and DevOps practices.
• Mentor engineers, provide technical direction, and communicate architecture decisions and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least three years of technology architect experience.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
• Experience designing and delivering digital payment solutions, including Debit Card and digital wallet integrations.
• Strong experience in enterprise application architecture, system design, and modern front-end/web engineering using technologies such as React, Angular, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Strong backend/API development and integration experience, including third-party platforms, payment services, APIs, and vendor SDKs.
• Experience with modern application technologies and engineering practices, including GraphQL, Git/GitHub, CI/CD, and DevOps.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence technical direction and mentor engineers.
• Experience presenting technical strategies, architecture decisions, and engineering roadmaps to senior architects and leadership.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, EKS, or Lambda and observability tools such as AppDynamics, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.
• Experience working in financial services, fintech, banking, or highly regulated industries.
