Job summary

Valeo North America is seeking an Application Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience in active safety and driver assistance technologies, including park assist, automated parking, collision avoidance, and blind spot detection. You will collaborate with application engineers, system teams, and mechanical designers on vehicle testing and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field OR Recent Graduate.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and good written/verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; basic exposure to programming or scripting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Vehicle Testing & Validation: Assist with active safety testing on test tracks and set up test environments for project vehicles.
• Requirements & Data Analysis: Review system requirements, create basic test cases, and perform log/trace analysis using standard tools.
• Component & Vehicle Integration: Shadow review of mechanical packaging and assist with ECU flashing and calibration setup.
• Documentation & Coordination: Help draft test specifications, test reports, and configuration sheets with engineering teams.

About the Role

Join our team as an Application Engineering Intern! In this role, you will gain hands‑on experience in active safety and driver assistance technologies, including park assist, automated parking, collision avoidance, and blind spot detection. You will work closely with application engineers, system teams, and mechanical designers to assist with vehicle testing, component integration, and data analysis. Seeking a current student or recent graduate to start as soon as possible and work on a year‑round basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Vehicle Testing & Validation: Assist with active safety testing on test tracks and setup test environments for project vehicles.
• Requirements & Data Analysis: Support the team in reviewing system requirements, creating basic test cases, and performing log/trace analysis using standard industry tools.
• Component & Vehicle Integration: Learn how sensors (ultrasonic, cameras) integrate into vehicles by shadow‑reviewing mechanical packaging and assisting with ECU flashing and calibration setup.
• Documentation & Coordination: Help draft test specifications, test reports, and configuration sheets while collaborating with domestic and global engineering teams.

What You Should Have

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field OR Recent Graduate.
• Fundamental understanding of mechanical principles (static/dynamic forces) and basic vehicle dynamics.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities, self‑motivation, and solid written/verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; basic exposure to programming or script writing is a plus.

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Points!)

• Previous project or coursework exposure to active safety, driver assistance systems (ADAS), or automotive development.

Work Location

This position is located in both our Auburn Hills, MI and Troy, MI locations. Candidates must be able to work from both offices as business needs require and be flexible with their work location.
