Job summary

Omron Automation's Inspection Systems Division seeks an energetic application engineer to support SPI, AOI, and AXI solutions at the Hoffman Estates site. The role combines technical proficiency with customer-facing activities, including demonstrations, evaluations, and on-site support.

The candidate will install, calibrate, and train customers, collaborate with the sales team, and stay current on product portfolio and industry standards; travel up to 50-75% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited four-year institution (preferred).
  • 4+ years SMT-manufacturing experience with capital equipment support and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics.
  • Experience with Windows Server, networking, and PC/server hardware is desired.

Job description

Omron Inspection Systems Division is seeking an energetic application engineer to be part of a dynamic team and work alongside advanced technology. The AE role is responsible for the dedicated support of Omron’s automated inspection solutions (SPI, AOI & AXI). This position is located at our Hoffman Estates location and is non-remote.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain an extensive knowledge base of the Omron inspection solution portfolio, quality standards, and industry insights (as in-house expert)
  • Maintain expert level knowledge of equipment operation and programming
  • Assist customers with equipment decisions, questions & technical discussions
  • Assist the sales team with demonstrations & evaluations (technical sales role)
  • Assist the sales team with specific, strategic sales & promotional activities
  • Assist the sales team with industry and trade-show events
  • Perform equipment installation, service, support & calibration activities
  • Provide remote, phone and on-site customer support
  • Train customers and team members on technology-related topics
  • Assist with the design and implementation of training materials
  • Crosstrain on each Omron inspection solution product category (SPI, AOI & AXI)
  • Perform any other activities assigned by management
  • Represents the Omron Guiding Principles through personal and business interactions with employees, customers, distributors, and colleagues
  • Represent Omron in a professional, ethical, and socially responsible manner
  • To conform with U.S. export control regulations, the applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government
Education, Experience And Certifcations

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited four-year institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred)

  • Experience: 4+ years of SMT-manufacturing related experience (inspection-focused role preferred) with capital equipment support experience and strong troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements:

Environmental Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposure to manufacturing environments, factories, mills, office, mines and treatment plants. Environments will vary depending on the customer you are visiting.

Other Requirements:

A deemed Export License may be required.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to work irregular schedules/hours and the ability to travel up to 50 - 75%
