Job summary

3M is seeking an Application Engineer based at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN, to join a global team that brings innovative materials to market. You will collaborate with diverse colleagues on flexographic and splicing tape products, supporting development, testing, and customer feedback.

This on-site role requires strong cross-functional communication, lab oversight, and the ability to navigate a competitive landscape. Up to 25% travel, relocation assistance, and U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of application engineering, laboratory technology and technology development in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Master's degree in Printmaking, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Material Science from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of laboratory technology and technology development in a private, public, government or military environment
  • The ability to build personal relationships both internally at 3M and externally with customers
  • Experience developing and substantiating product claims
  • Experience modifying and developing application test methods and communicating those results to a broader team
  • Experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies
  • Current, valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and runs product testing laboratory and equipment.
  • Acts as a liaison between 3M and 3rd party testing and certifications laboratories.
  • Assists in determining the competitive landscape for the overall global market.
  • Supports the global business and sales teams and provides key training and awareness to the global application engineering team members.

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

Work location:
  • This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel: May include up to 25% domestic/international
