Pinnacle Technology seeks a Windows VDI Administrator to manage and optimize Engineering Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. The role focuses on delivering reliable desktop experiences, handling image lifecycle, and ensuring secure, compliant operations across engineering workloads.
You will collaborate with the DT team and coordinate migrations, automate deployment processes, and troubleshoot complex application compatibility issues for engineering software such as Matlab, Exceed, and NX.
The Windows VDI Administrator is a dedicated systems specialist responsible for the administration, optimization, and user experience of Engineering Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. The role is embedded within ADT to provide sustained, dedicated Windows desktop engineering expertise that supports and complements the DT team’s expertise.
Serve as the primary technical owner for the Windows Virtual Desktop environment; manage the platform at the image, session, and application delivery level; support ongoing migration and stabilization efforts post-PowerVDI transition.
Systematically identify, track, and resolve top VDI pain points affecting engineering users; drive measurable improvement in perceived desktop responsiveness and application reliability.
Manage Windows VDI base image lifecycle including OS patching/rollback, application deployment, and standardisation aligned with ADT's Software Store Standardization initiative.
Support and lead ongoing user data migration efforts from legacy environments; manage user onboarding workflows and access provisioning for new and migrating VDI users.
Resolve complex application compatibility issues on Windows VDI, including engineering applications (e.g., Matlab, Exceed, NX, and 3rd party simulation tools); serve as the escalation point for desktop-tier issues that affect engineering productivity.
Monitor VDI session performance, resource consumption, and concurrency patterns; provide capacity data to inform provisioning decisions and cost benchmarking by engineer persona.
Support migration of Windows deployment processes toward more automated, standardized models, aligned with broader CI/CD goals.
Ensure Windows VDI environments meet GE Vernova cybersecurity standards; support vulnerability remediation workflows coordinated by ADT's security and compliance initiatives.
Work closely with the DT team on underlying infrastructure changes (AWS WorkSpaces or equivalent), networking, and cloud capacity; provide Windows desktop expertise while DT manages the cloud and network layers.
