The role supports Sales with formulation input, develops starter formulations, and helps maintain the Applications Laboratory, documenting experiments in a lab notebook.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science or related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in formulation preferred.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to document experiments in a lab notebook.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in formulating personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products.

Job description

The Application Chemist I will assist in the formulation of various personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products. The Application Chemist I will be responsible for performing basic lab techniques and continuously progressing formulation capabilities and knowledge of raw materials.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the formulation of various personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products for publication in notable personal care industry publications and web sites.
  • Support Sales staff as needed by providing formulation support through email, phone calls, virtual or in-person meetings, filling prototype sample requests, and the development of starter formulations.
  • Assist in the formulation development of new raw materials as needed.
  • Research formulation techniques and properties of raw materials through literature, experimentation, and mentorship.
  • Assist in the proper maintenance of the Applications Laboratory, including equipment, benchtops, and work areas.
  • Any other duties as directed by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in formulation preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Driven by curiosity and eagerness to learn.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to communicate clearly and document experiments and formulations in a lab notebook.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments with instruction, including mixers, hot plates, viscometers, pH meters, weighing scales, and homogenizers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to local, domestic, and international destinations.
