Job summary

SMBC Group in Charlotte, NC is looking for an Analyst in the Application Architecture team to advance container platforms and cloud-native modernization across enterprise applications. You will work with Solution Architects, Platform Engineering, and Development teams to evaluate designs, onboard to platforms, and shape reference architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/IT/engineering.
• Foundational knowledge of application architecture, SDLC, and modern delivery practices.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift.
• Understanding of cloud-native principles, microservices, CI/CD, and DevOps methodologies.
• Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell) is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Support application teams in adopting container platforms and cloud-native patterns per enterprise standards.
• Assist with architecture reviews, platform onboarding, and evaluation of readiness for containerization and modernization.
• Document reference architectures, technical patterns, governance, and operational best practices.

• Develop technical documentation, diagrams, and knowledge-sharing materials on container technologies.

Role Description

The Application Architecture team is seeking a motivated Analyst with a strong interest in container platforms, cloud-native technologies, and modern application architecture. This role will support application teams in adopting enterprise container platforms and architectural best practices while helping drive the organization's cloud and modernization initiatives.

The Analyst will work closely with Solution Architects, Platform Engineering teams, Application Development teams, and Infrastructure teams to evaluate application designs, support onboarding to container platforms, and assist in developing reference architectures and standards.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, cloud-native technologies, DevSecOps practices, and enterprise application modernization.

Role Objectives

• Support application teams in the adoption of container platforms and cloud-native architecture patterns, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and best practices.
• Assist with application architecture reviews, platform onboarding activities, and the evaluation of application readiness for containerization and modernization.
• Collaborate with architects, engineering teams, and application owners to document reference architectures, technical patterns, governance requirements, and operational best practices.
• Analyze application dependencies, infrastructure requirements, and deployment models to help identify modernization opportunities and architectural improvements.
• Contribute to the development of technical documentation, presentations, architecture diagrams, and knowledge-sharing materials related to container technologies and application modernization.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in Kubernetes, OpenShift, cloud computing, observability, security, and DevOps practices

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Foundational knowledge of application architecture concepts, software development lifecycle (SDLC), and modern application delivery practices.
• Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift.
• Understanding of cloud-native principles, microservices architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps methodologies.
• Basic knowledge of cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with scripting or automation tools such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar technologies is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
• Interest in enterprise architecture, platform engineering, container ecosystems, and application modernization initiatives.
