Job summary

Navajo Tribal Utility Authority is seeking an entry-level Lineman Apprentice to join our team in Arizona. You will patrol and maintain electric transmission and distribution lines under close supervision, participate in troubleshooting outages, and support installation and repair work.

This role requires enrollment in the Apprenticeship Program, a valid Class A license (or CDL Learner's Permit) with a six-month validation timeline, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 6–12 months experience in Electric Construction.
  • 6–12 months experience in Electrical Field.
  • Enrollment in the Apprenticeship Program is required per standards.
  • Requires a Valid Driver's License or CDL Learner's Permit, Class A, to be validated to CDL within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols electric lines.
  • Assists with troubleshooting service interruptions and electrical outages.
  • Assists in construction, operation and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution lines under supervision.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of test equipment.
  • Investigates customer voltage complaints and takes corrective action.
  • Climbs poles to install wires, line hardware, insulators and other apparatus.
  • Repairs distribution systems and substations to maintain service.
  • Learns operation of a digger truck and lineman tools.
  • Troubleshoots overhead and underground circuits.
  • Assists in switching and restoring service on distribution lines and substations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 - 12 months experience in Electric Construction.
  • 6 - 12 months experience in Electrical Field.
  • Enrollment in the Apprenticeship Program is required in accordance with standards.
  • Requires a Valid Driver's License or CDL Learner's Permit, Class "A" (subject to motor vehicle review). Learner's permit is to be validated to CDL license within (6) months from date of employment.
Job Responsibilities and Performance Objectives
  • Patrols electric lines.
  • Assists with troubleshooting service interruptions and electrical outages.
  • Assists in the construction, operation and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution lines under close supervision of a qualified Line Maintainer Journeyman or those of higher classification.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of test equipment.
  • Assists in investigating customer complaints pertaining to voltage problems, required to climb poles, etc., and takes corrective action.
  • Climbs poles to install wires, line hardware, insulators, crossarms, wooden timbers, and any other apparatus.
  • Repairs electric distribution systems and substations in order to maintain service to customers.
  • Learns the operation of a digger truck and usage of lineman tools.
  • Troubleshoots overhead and underground circuits.
  • Assists in switching and restoring service on distribution lines and substations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
