Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a Hearing Legal Servcs Offcr I (Hourly) for the Headquarters unit to support disciplinary procedures across facilities. The role involves coordinating appeals, data entry, and communication with operations staff in a wage position with limited hours.

The incumbent will assist in processing disciplinary appeals, reviewing responses, and maintaining records while working under the direction of the Discipline Unit Manager.

Qualifications

• Exceptional organizational skills and experience managing multiple assignments at a time.
• Experience analyzing and applying rules and regulations to evaluate evidence and information.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Experience taking initiative on unit projects.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Manager of the Discipline Unit in ensuring the proper administration of inmate disciplinary procedures in DOC facilities.
• Provides assistance via email, correspondence, and phone to operations staff on a daily basis.
• Assists in the monitoring and analysis of appeal referrals.
• Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
• Enters data into the Disciplinary Appeals database.
• Reviews and drafts disciplinary appeal responses for Regional Administrators' review and signature.
• Maintains and tracks all incoming Disciplinary Appeals.
• Files and maintains completed Disciplinary Appeal packets for litigation purposes.
• Conducts training as needed.
• Conducts site visits as needed.
• Assists the Legal Compliance Manager as needed.
