Job summary

Lanterman Regional Center seeks an Appeals and Resolutions Supervisor under the direction of the Associate Director, Client and Family Services Ongoing Teams. The role develops and implements procedures for administrative hearing requests and grievances, reviews DDS directives, and ensures compliance across the Center.

The supervisor acts as the Center's primary grievance representative, guides the Fair Hearing and Compliance Coordinator, and coordinates tasks to achieve desired outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social, behavioral or life science or special education with 3–5 years of experience in developmental disabilities.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • A valid California driver's license and automobile insurance are required.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Client and Family Services Ongoing Teams, the Appeals and Resolutions Supervisor develops, guides, and implements the Center’s procedures related to administrative hearing requests and grievances. The Appeals and Resolutions Supervisor reviews policies and directives by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) that govern appeals and grievance practices and advises the Center in the development of standardized practices to ensure the Center is in compliance.

The incumbent serves as the Center’s primary representative in response to all grievances, assigning tasks as necessary that are determined to be desired outcomes from the grievance process. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for providing supervision and guidance to the Fair Hearing and Compliance Coordinator position including organization, time management, and delegation of responsibilities, when necessary, and additional relief to the Fair Hearing and Compliance Coordinator to represent the Center in administrative appeals when necessary, due to increasing demand.

Education & Experience

The position requires incumbent to have demonstrated experience writing high-quality legal correspondence such as Notices of Action, court reports, or complaint response letters. The incumbent must possess a working knowledge of developmental disabilities and a strong understanding of current values and practices in the field of developmental disabilities. The position also requires strong critical thinking and conflict mediation skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with members of the Lanterman community.

The incumbent must demonstrate exceptional communication oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, accurate and concise reports, including the analysis and interpretation of statistical data and recommendations. The incumbent will also possess strong public-speaking skills, including the ability to create and facilitate presentations and trainings, manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong organization, planning, and time management skills are also required for this role. The incumbent will also demonstrate proficiency with computers applications including but not limited to MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

The incumbent must have a bachelor’s degree in social, behavioral or life science or special education combined with 3 to 5 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of required experience.

Substantial equivalents may be substituted for the above requirements.

A valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and adequate transportation to fulfill position responsibility is also required.

Language; Bilingual; Spanish/English highly preferred.
