Job Summary

All Content Area Teachers report to the School Principal and are responsible for creating a flexible learning program and a classroom environment conducive to academic and personal growth. They establish rapport with students, motivate them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and maintain good relationships with parents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Teach all content and other appropriate learning activities utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees.
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student.
• Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, and discovery.
• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to utilize available instructional time effectively.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with parents consistently through notebooks, agendas, conferences, and other means to discuss student progress.
• Identify student needs and cooperate with professional staff to assess and help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
• Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and professional growth activities.
• Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the teacher’s evaluation method in conformance with guidelines.
• Select and requisition books and instructional aids, maintain required inventory records.
• Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the school day.
• Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the state testing program.
• Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
• Participate in faculty committees and support student activities.

Qualifications

• Meet ongoing training and credentialing requirements identified by Human Resources.

Work Environment

• Work indoors, outdoors, on campus and off campus, including frequent stressful situations.
• Full time (37.5 hours plus weekend and evening work possible).
