Job description

We are seeking an engaging, reliable AP Statistics Tutor to provide personalized, 1-on-1 instruction directly in students' homes across Kirkland. In this role, you will help high school students master complex statistical concepts, gain confidence in data analysis, and prepare effectively for the AP exam through tailored, face-to-face sessions.

Key Responsibilities

• In-Home 1-on-1 Instruction:** Travel to student residences in Kirkland to deliver customized, engaging lessons covering the complete College Board AP Statistics curriculum.
• AP Exam Preparation:** Coach students on AP-style Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Free Response Questions (FRQs), focusing on AP scoring rubrics, conceptual clarity, and exam strategies.
• Tech Proficiency:** Teach students how to effectively use graphing calculators (TI-84 or equivalent) for statistical tests, confidence intervals, and data visualization.
• Student Tracking & Communication:** Monitor individual progress, identify learning gaps, and keep families updated on student growth and milestones.

3-Step Pedagogical Execution:

• Step 1 (Derivations): Teach the conceptual "why" behind formulas and statistical principles rather than relying on rote memorization.
• Step 2 (Rigorous Assisted Practice): Challenge students with high-level problems (Bloom's Taxonomy Level 5+) to build college-level critical thinking.
• Step 3 (Independent Practice): Guide students toward total topic mastery through unassisted problem-solving

Qualifications

• Strong academic background in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Prior experience tutoring AP Statistics or a proven track record of top performance on the AP Statistics exam.
• Familiarity with the College Board AP Statistics framework and exam format.
• Reliable personal transportation to travel to client homes throughout Kirkland.
• Excellent communication, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching certification or formal tutoring experience with high school students.
