REPORTS TO: Head Coach

JOB GOAL:

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical trainingnecessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the assistant coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to sociallyacceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride ofaccomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skillsthrough coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

GENERAL:

1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community'simage of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerableresponsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance istaxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and goodmental health.

2. The position includes other unusual aspect such as extended time, risk of injuryfactor and due process predicaments.

3. It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance tofunction. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that an assistant coachshall exercise common sense and good judgment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Grove City Area SchoolDistrict's Board of Education.
• 2. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently.
• 3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances throughproper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in studentathletesthe character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• 2. Assists in giving constant attention to a student athlete's conduct.
• 3. By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidanceandsafeguards for each participant.
• 4. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who isconsidered a participant.
• 5. Assists in initiating programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention andemergencies.
• 6. Directs student managers and statisticians.
