Job summary

Decatur City School System is seeking a qualified administrator to assist in directing and administering the institution. Job description

SUMMARY:
  • Assists in the direction and administration of institution by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in the coordination of educational curriculum, security, recreational, and rehabilitation programs.

  • Provides coordination and support for instructional initiatives.

  • Assists in the direction, operation and maintenance of facilities, cafeteria, buildings, and grounds.

  • Observes, evaluates, conferences, supervises, makes recommendations regarding termination, re-employment, transfer, etc., of persons under jurisdiction of the principal.

  • Assists in the preparation of budgets and monitors expenditures.

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of middle school curriculum.

  • Attends professional meetings, writes reports, and maintains records.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s degree (M.A.), valid Alabama Certificate in Administration, and three years related experience and/or training preferred. Background in curriculum and supervision is highly desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively to include written speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Alabama Class A certificate with the appropriate endorsement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
