Job summary

Anchor Bay School District in Fair Haven, Michigan seeks a dedicated High School Counselor to serve as a student advocate and provide counseling and guidance services.   • Knowledge of Section 504 and other state and federal regulations regarding the identification and placement of students in special education.
  • Knowledge of post high school training opportunities, career information, and resources.

  • Monitor and advise students and their parents as to the student’s progress toward promotion/ graduation.
  • Interpret tests, student data and other assessment results appropriately.

  • Monitor and advise students and their parents as to the student’s progress toward promotion/ graduation.
  • Interpret tests, student data and other assessment results appropriately.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position.

Qualification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Must be Michigan Certified as a School Counselor.
  • Teaching experience at the Secondary level desired.
  • Have earned a Master’s degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior training and experience which provides the applicant with knowledge, skills an ability required to perform the duties of a high school guidance counselor, desired.
  • Knowledge of childhood social, emotional, physical and academic development.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and other state and federal regulations regarding the identification and placement of students in special education.
  • Knowledge of community support resources and family service agencies.
  • Knowledge of post high school training opportunities, career information, and resources.
  • Ability to obtain, clarify and exchange information.
  • Ability to evaluate transcripts and credits.
  • Ability to assess guidance curriculum needs and implement the high school guidance curriculum.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate individual and group activities based upon brief psycho-educational models.
  • Ability to act as a liaison with community family service agencies and other support resources.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
  • Ability to participate as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job goal for the benefit of the students and school and those duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator and Director of Student Services.
