Job Description

Title: Head Baseball Coach

Qualifications: Teaching certificate issued by DESE and meet all NFHS and/or MSHSAA requirements and training as directed by the Activities Director

Supervises: Assistant coaches and volunteers

Performance Objectives:

  • Organize and run summer camps.
  • Organize and supervise open gym activities.
  • Develop a tryout system so every student has a fair and equal opportunity to try out for a sport.
  • Organize and run practice sessions.
  • Plan ahead for use of facilities.
  • Give input to the activities director for scheduling contests.
  • Give input to the activities director for hiring officials.
  • Be responsible for the care and maintenance of uniforms and equipment.
  • Be responsible for facilities used by your sport.
  • Know and enforce all safety rules and procedures.
  • Know and follow all MSHSAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Teach student-athletes proper procedures and methods in the sport to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Understand and teach student-athletes the proper fundamentals of the sport.
  • Place utmost priority on student-athletes emotional and physical well‑being.
  • Check on classroom progress of student-athletes.
  • See that each student-athlete completes required forms (physical, insurance waiver, parent permission).
  • Participate in sports awards programs and award school letters according to written requirements.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to assistant coach(s).
  • See the student-athletes behave appropriately and show good sportsmanship.
  • Engage in fund‑raising for the program.
  • Participate in and organize pre‑season parent informational meetings.
  • Help in the maintenance and preparation of facilities for practices in games.
  • Actively and positively promote sports to students in school in an effort to increase participation in all sports, not only sports in which the coach is directly involved.
  • Work closely with other coaches and sponsors to encourage students to participate in a wide variety of activities and sports.
  • Promote St. James Athletics to the community.
  • Work closely with youth sports programs to foster participation.
  • Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Activities Director.

Terms of Employment: Employment is on an annual basis. The Building Principal makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Adopted Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.

Evaluation: An annual evaluation is conducted by the Building Principal using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
