Job description

We are seeking a visionary Senior Designer to join our fast growing Anthropologie Weddings team. You’ll support the Bridal and Occasion design team with overall trend and direction for designs each season with a forward thinking eye, an expert hand in construction, and deep passion for craftsmanship. You’ll mentor emerging talent, and collaborate across buying, production, and technical design to deliver collections that feel both fashion-forward and deeply Anthropologie.

Role Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Design Director each season to define the seasonal trend and design direction for the bridal and occasion category, balancing innovation with commercial awareness and the DNA of Anthropologie.
  • Source and develop fabrics that help to push the product assortment forwards from a quality and novelty perspective. Collaborate with partners in product development to manage lead‑time, minimum order requirements, and costing constraints.
  • Communicate fit and construction details to Technical Design. Complete technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs, with in depth construction and design details.
  • Work closely with print and color teams on direction and approvals from sampling through to production.
  • Travel to factories for development and execution of programs when needed.
  • Manage weekly fittings.
  • Lead & Inspire; manage and mentor Assistant Designer, fueling creativity, fostering collaboration, and supporting needs of the team.
  • Own the process, oversee everything from concept sketch to final sample, including fabric sourcing, trims, construction, and fittings.
  • Great cross‑functional collaboration skills; partner with Buying, Product Development, and Technical Design to ensure beautiful product.
  • Deliver compelling presentations of designs to leadership and cross functional teams at sketch, and sample review meetings.
  • Stay ahead of trends; shop markets, and research globally. Take photos and purchase samples for inspiration and translate cultural and runway moments into designs our customer will love.
Role Qualifications
  • The ability to recognize and accurately forecast fashion and cultural trends, including color direction, fabric innovation, and silhouette newness approximately 9‑12 months ahead.
  • Creative Vision: Identify trends in early stages and understand impact to fashion, providing Anthropologie a point of difference.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and inspire others.
  • Strong team leader, working well cross‑functionally with buying, print, product development, technical design, etc.
  • Organizational skills necessary to manage multiple tasks and projects, and complete them within deadlines.
  • Excellent hand sketching and/or CAD skills in Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of apparel construction, with a focus on dresses and gowns.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Experience with embellishment design, and fabric innovation.
  • Leadership skills to inspire teams with energy, clarity and vision, manage workload and delegate daily direction.
  • Develop a solid team of individuals sharing a common vision and understanding of the Company and the Anthro customer.
  • The ability to develop partnerships with Buyers, Directors and Department heads.
  • 7‑10 years in women’s design, with a focus on dresses.
  • Experience in bridal or occasion a plus.
  • Strong understanding of fashion & bridal trends and the Anthropologie customer.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fabrications and construction.
