Job summary

Larimer County seeks a temporary Boat Inspector to support aquatic invasive species prevention at Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir. The six-month role may be full-time or part-time and includes weekend, swing, and night shifts.

You will provide information to visitors, conduct inspections of boats, quarantine and decontaminate vessels, and advise on regulations. Supervisory opportunities may exist for seasonal staff.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Aquatic Nuisance Species training program and exam within 1 month of hire.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Knowledge of water and boats.
  • Clear and concise communication, verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information to visitors on aquatic invasive species and prevention initiatives.
  • Inspect boats launching and leaving Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir for AIS prevention.
  • Quarantine and decontaminate infected vessels.
  • Advise park visitors on recreational opportunities and regulations.
  • Greet park visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and helpful manner and communicate with diverse groups.
  • May supervise a crew engaged in boat inspections and/or act as lead worker.

Job description

In this role, you will provide information, education, and customer service related to aquatic invasive species prevention and compliance.

Our mission is to establish, protect, and manage significant regional parks and open lands by providing quality outdoor recreational opportunities and stewardship of natural resource values. We are committed to fostering a sense of community and appreciation for the natural and agricultural heritage of Larimer County for present and future generations.

The schedule for this position is flexible and may include weekends, swing shifts, and night shifts. Both full-time and part-time positions are available. This role is expected to last for six months.

What you'll be doing:
  • Provides information to visitors on aquatic invasive species and initiatives to prevent their spread.
  • Conducts inspections of boats launching and leaving Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir for aquatic invasive species for preventing the spread of such invasive species.
  • Quarantines and decontaminates infected vessels.
  • Advises park visitors of recreational opportunities and public use regulations.
  • Greets a wide variety of park visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and helpful manner, and communicates effectively with a wide diversity of individuals and groups.
  • May supervise a crew engaged in boat inspections and/or act as a lead worker to less experienced seasonal workers.
