Job summary

SPCA Tampa Bay Florida Inc. is seeking a full-time Animal Welfare & Intake Counselor to join our open-admission shelter. You will provide daily care for shelter animals, assist adopters, and serve as a point of contact for surrendering pet owners, while supporting humane euthanasia discussions when needed.

You will collaborate with medical and welfare teams, collect histories at intake, and pursue a Humane Euthanasia Technician certification within six months, with training provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in animal shelter care or similar setting is preferred.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting.
• Strong communication and emotional resilience when interacting with the public.
• Previous animal handling experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

We\'re looking for a full-time Animal Welfare & Intake Counselor to join our open-admission, for-all animal shelter. Being a "for-all" shelter means that SPCA Tampa Bay will not limit admission or refuse to take in a pet. As part of the operations team, you\'ll have the opportunity to make a difference within the community!

What you\'ll do:

• Provide daily care for shelter animals, including cleaning, feeding, and maintaining kennels.
• Perform physically demanding work such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Assist adopters in finding the right companion.
• Serve as a supportive point of contact for individuals surrendering pets.
• Collect accurate behavioral and medical histories during intake.
• Provide compassionate guidance regarding relinquishment and humane euthanasia options.
• Collaborate with medical and animal welfare teams to ensure smooth intake.
• Obtain Humane Euthanasia Technician certification within 6 months (training provided).
