Job summary

The City of McKinney seeks an Animal Control Officer to enforce city animal ordinances and address owner responsibility, nuisance issues, and wildlife concerns. You will patrol, capture, and transport animals as needed, while coordinating care with the shelter and partners.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; relevant certifications preferred.
• Basic Animal Control and Euthanasia certifications or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Patrols the city for compliance with animal ordinances and responds to public calls.
• Captures stray or dangerous animals and coordinates impound with the shelter.
• Gathers evidence, writes reports, and testifies in municipal and circuit court.
• Educates the public on rabies vaccine requirements and responsible pet ownership.
• Works with other agencies and departments on animal-related issues.
