Job summary

Johnston County Animal Services seeks a full-time animal shelter attendant to care for animals, assist the public, and maintain shelter records. The role covers feeding, cleaning, vaccinations under veterinary direction, and occasional euthanasia as required.

Staff works in both indoor and outdoor environments and must follow safety protocols. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent and some animal-care experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school and some experience caring for animals.
• Ability to maintain accurate reports.
• Working knowledge of breeds of animals to aid in identification and understanding of animal behavior.
• Ability to deal constructively and tactfully with the public.
• Ability to build and maintain cooperative and effective public relations with the community.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming animals and maintain general records.
• Feed and care for animals; provide vaccinations and treatments as directed by a veterinarian.
• Keep animal containment areas clean and sanitized; maintain facility grounds.
• Euthanize animals on an as-needed basis and dispose of deceased animals.
• Respond to public inquiries about adoptions, lost and found animals, and general shelter services.
