GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This safety sensitive position (SS) is responsible for controlling, caring and recovery of domesticated animals. Eradication and removal of nuisance wild. Picking up and recovery of deceased animals from roadway. General maintenance and up keep of Animal Control facilities, grounds, building and equipment. Assisting Kennel Masters when needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide food, water and sterilize kennels against disease.
  • Picks up abandoned or stray animals.
  • Provide medical care to animals to include innoculations.
  • Provide clerical tasks, answer phone, service calls and logs information.
  • Assist Kennel Masters when needed.
  • Traps and eradicates nuisance wildlife.
  • Certified euthanist, euthanizes animals and maintains records.
  • Responds to emergency calls after hours.
  • Maintains quarantined animals for health department officials.
  • Maintains facility and property as needed.
  • Provides 1st responder care to injured animals in the field.
  • Handle lifestock problems and recover deceased animals from roadways and properly dispose.
  • Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.
  • Dispatches calls for service through Police Radio system, runs criminal history checks, vehicle and warrant checks for Animal Control Officers.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
