Job summary

Klamath County seeks an Animal Control Officer to enforce county and state animal ordinances, handle dog control duties, and ensure humane treatment of animals. You will investigate dangerous dogs, cruelty cases, and bite incidents, while coordinating with law enforcement and the courts.

The role requires a valid driver's license, Oregon notary, and First Aid/CPR; sworn status as an Animal Control Officer is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
• Valid driverluhem; notary license in Oregon; First Aid/CPR certification.
• Ability to be sworn as an Animal Control Officer and testify as expert witness.

Responsibilities

• Enforce county/state animal ordinances and cruelty laws related to licensing and dog control.
• Investigate dangerous dog and cruelty/neglect complaints; interview witnesses and suspects; seizing or impounding animals as needed.
• Respond to calls, patrol for violations, unlicensed dogs, and barking dogs; issue citations as appropriate.
• Represent the Animal Control program to public groups and educational outreach on dog care and bite prevention.
• Assist law enforcement as needed and provide instruction in animal control techniques and transporting injured animals.
• Maintain equipment and records systems; log citations and transports; coordinate with courts for dispositions.
• Investigate dog bite incidents and enforce rabies quarantine; review prevention measures.
• On-Call to respond to emergencies or livestock incidents involving animals.
