Job summary

SoBran, Inc. is seeking an Animal Facility Specialist-Poultry in Athens, GA. The role covers care, supervision, and breeding of poultry, with SOP adherence and collaboration with the facility veterinarian to ensure clinical support and contract deliverables.

The candidate will lead husbandry staff, oversee operations, and help train personnel while meeting biohazard containment standards and ensuring compliance with safety and quality guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• 7–10 years of experience in animal care facility with poultry focus.
• Must have poultry husbandry facilities management and data management experience.
• Must have working knowledge of biohazard containment.
• Experience with other livestock and rodents preferred.
• Leadership experience preferred; LAT certification preferred.
• Must lift up to 50 lbs and have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct daily husbandry activities to ensure tasks are carried out properly.
• Provide training to husbandry personnel on SOPs and procedures.
• Schedule cage changes and assign daily activities to staff.
• Ensure SOP compliance and suggest program improvements.
• Assist with reporting and care of animal clinical cases.
• Manage poultry breeding and perform other required animal procedures.
• Collaborate with the facility veterinarian to follow prescribed plans.

Job description

The Animal Facility Specialist-Poultry will be responsible for all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of the animal care and use program for client's site in Athens, GA. Serve as backup support in animal care areas in the absence of floor supervisors.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Perform duties of the Animal Caretaker as needed to meet facility operations.
• Perform procedures requiring various levels of biohazard containment.
• Supervise and direct daily activities of husbandry personnel to ensure that all required functions are carried out appropriately, including receiving animals, feeding and watering, handling and restraint, health surveillance, equipment maintenance, supply inventories, animal manipulations, laboratory procedures, and other contract-related duties.
• Assist with training husbandry personnel according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Schedule and perform cage changing and assign daily activities to personnel performing husbandry procedures.
• Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are adhered to by the husbandry staff and suggest modifications to program management.
• Assist with reporting and caring for animal clinical cases.
• Manage and perform breeding of poultry, and other animal procedures as required.
• Work closely with the facility veterinarian and/or designee to ensure clinical support is carried out according to prescribed plans and SOPs.
• Participate in interviews and selection of husbandry personnel.
• Provide information as needed to complete contract deliverables.
• Perform QC duties related to meeting requirements of supported areas and as directed.
• Work under the direct supervision of the management team.
• Report any abnormal conditions of the animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff.

Requirements:

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;
• 7-10 years of experience in animal care facility performing animal husbandry, with a specific focus on poultry.
• Must have poultry experience,
• Must have Poultry husbandry facilities management, clinical case management, technical procedures, breeder flock management, and data management experience.
• Must have a working knowledge of biohazard containment.
• Experience working with other livestock and rodents is preferred.
• Previous leadership experience preferred.
• Certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed to ensure animal care is carried out in compliance with appropriate timelines to include weekend and holiday coverage.
