Job summary

Stafford County is seeking a Deputy Sheriff - Animal Control Officer to enforce animal control laws, respond to calls, impound animals, and maintain records. The role requires physical fitness, a high school diploma or GED, Virginia driver’s license, and availability to work weekends and holidays.

Additional compensation may be earned via shift schedule, night differential, holiday and premium pay. This position is essential and will involve background checks, polygraph, and required training

Qualifications

• Knowledge of laws governing animal control and regulations.
• Ability to prepare clear reports and maintain records.
• Must be a US citizen and meet Virginia DMV requirements.

Responsibilities

• Respond to animal control calls and patrol for violations.
• Impound abandoned and stray animals; investigate animal bites.
• Keep records; provide public information; perform euthanasia when required.
• Assist humane officer; issue summons; appear in court as needed.
• Perform related law enforcement duties and safety checks.
