Opal Foods is seeking an Animal Caretaker for our Layer Farm in Roggen, CO. This full-time role involves caring for layer hens, maintaining barns, and supporting the Production Farm Lead with related tasks to ensure optimal egg production and compliance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities include sanitation, bird health checks, feed and water system oversight, and minor maintenance. Weekend and holiday availability is required, with six-day work weeks structured around rosters.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to walk for extended periods
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, kneel and lift up to 5 lb of birds
  • Must be comfortable in bird houses surrounded by live birds

Responsibilities

  • Maintain barn sanitation and floors.
  • Walk the barns to check bird health and remove dead birds.
  • Ensure feed and water systems work and birds have access to food, water, and air.
  • Adjust vents and curtains as required.
  • Perform minor maintenance; heavier tasks by maintenance technicians.
  • Assist other Animal Caretakers as needed.
  • Other duties assigned by Lead or Manager.

ANIMAL CARETAKER-LAYER HENS

Full Time ROGGEN PRODUCTION, Roggen, CO, US

Opal Foods is currently accepting applications for the position ofAnimal Caretaker for our Layer Farmin Roggen, CO. This position is responsible for caring for layer hens and ensuring barns are properly maintained to ensure optimal egg production while maintaining compliance with all company policies and governmental regulations. This position will also assist the Production Farm Lead with other projects and duties as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain barn sanitation by sweeping floors; may use a backpack unit to blow dust from assigned areas.
  • Walk the barns numerous times during the workday to check on bird health and remove dead birds.
  • Ensure feed and water distribution systems are working properly and that hens have adequate food, water and air ventilation.
  • Will adjust vents and curtains as required.
  • Perform minor maintenance as needed. Maintenance technicians will perform more complex tasks.
  • Assist other Animal Caretakers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Lead person or Manager.

Requirements: (knowledge, experience, skills, education)

  • Must be able to walk for very long periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and lift up to 5 lb. hens
  • Must be comfortable in bird houses, surrounded by live birds on all sides
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled
  • Must work 6 days a week with day off on a week day
