Job summary

Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) in Washington, DC seeks an Animal Care Supervisor to oversee daily operations of the animal care team, ensure high standards of welfare, and lead staff with accountability and compassion.

You will coordinate scheduling, onboarding, enrichment, and safety protocols, collaborate with medical and behavior colleagues, support adopters and volunteers, and maintain documentation in our systems while upholding regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-year animal welfare or animal related experience.
• Fear Free certified or must obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proficient in the use and application of computer technology including MS Office and database management.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise, coach, and support all Animal Care staff and Leads; ensure accountability and high performance.
• Create and maintain daily staff schedules for coverage and efficiency.
• Lead onboarding, training, and continuous development of Animal Care team members.
• Conduct regular check-ins, performance feedback, and assist with evaluations.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, team-oriented work environment.
• Oversee daily animal care tasks including feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and monitoring.
