The Department of Anesthesiology iscommitted to delivering the best possible anesthetic and criticalcare to our patients, to advancing research and quality improvementin anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and training the nextgeneration of anesthesiologists through our residency andfellowship programs along with medical student teaching.
Provide care to patients atVCU Health as assigned by the Department Chair or Chair's delegate.This includes preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anestheticcare, postoperative rounds, resuscitation and intensive care,therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks, and consultation in cases ofchronic pain. Directs the activities of nurse anesthetists asassigned by Chair or Chair's delegate.
Provides "bedside" clinical teaching of residents, medicalstudents, student nurse anesthetists and others. Participates inthe didactic teaching programs of the department at thisinstitution and attends conferences, rounds, and staff meetings asrequired by Chair.
May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarlyinterests independently but within the guidelines of theInstitution and department. Participate in clinical trialsdepending upon interest and area of specialization.
May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, universityor VCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determinedvia individual interest. the department stresses the importance ofbeing a good citizen of the institution and fosters communityservice at all levels.
Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed byDepartment Chair or delegate including main OR and ambulatoryareas. May supervise and direct Certified Registered NurseAnesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate. Direct anesthesia care in othercritical care areas of the medical center.
