Job summary

U.S. Army Anesthesiologists deliver perioperative care for Soldiers and their families, combining anesthesia, critical care and pain management. Army service offers unique training, continued education, and opportunities to grow as a military officer while serving the nation.

Eligible physicians must hold an MD or DO, have a U.S. license, and complete an anesthesiology residency, with board certification pending.

Qualifications

• Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited U.S. medical school or osteopathy program
• Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates
• Must have a current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
• Must be eligible for board certification
• Must have completed a residency program in anesthesiology
• Must be a U.S. Citizen, Naturalized citizen or Permanent Resident to apply

Responsibilities

• Provide anesthesiology care before, during and after surgery for Soldiers and their families
• Apply anesthesia, critical care, emergency medicine and pain management as part of perioperative care
• Participate in continued education programs and leadership training within the Army context
• Support humanitarian missions and deployments as needed

U.S. Army Anesthesiologists are critical to the perioperative care of Soldiers and their families; before, during and after surgery.

You’ll provide them the critical treatments that require anesthetics, and possibly assisting on humanitarian missions during surgical procedures.
