Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center seeks a dedicated Anesthesia Technician to support anesthesia professionals by preparing, operating, and restocking supplies and equipment. Responsibilities include assisting with emergent and routine procedures, transporting patients, and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setups for emergent and non-emergent procedures, including complex cases.
  • Prepare equipment for transport of critically ill patients and assist in transport.
  • Assist in lifting and positioning patients and during induction of anesthesia.
  • Order and pick up local drugs and inhalational agents from Pharmacy as needed.
  • Maintain and restock anesthesia equipment and supplies.

Job Summary:

Prepares, operates, cleans, cares for, and restocks anesthesia supplies and equipment; assists in line placements and patient care as required by nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists.

Job Duties:
  • Assists in setups for all emergent and non-emergent procedures, including open hearts and traumas.
  • Obtains and prepares all equipment needed for transport of critically ill patients and assists in their transport.
  • Assists in lifting and positioning of patients.
  • Assists anesthetist during the induction of anesthesia as required.
  • Orders and picks up local drugs and inhalational agents from Pharmacy.
  • Stocks block carts with needed drugs.
  • Requires knowledge of generic and current trade names of all pharmaceuticals used by the department.
  • Prepares monthly special order supply list as assigned.
  • Stocks and cleans all assigned areas daily.
  • Performs decontamination procedures.
  • Stocks, cleans, and replaces all anesthesia equipment and supplies as necessary.
  • Sets up all special monitoring lines for the Surgical Suite.
  • Operates Level One Rapid Infuser Pump.
  • Changes soda lime in canisters weekly and as needed.
  • Performs leak check procedures and proper disposal of exhausted chemical.
  • Coordinates basic upkeep and maintenance of anesthesia machinery.
  • Sends blood to stat lab for analysis.
  • Performs laboratory procedures for labeling, container selection, lab slip preparation, and techniques for tube operation.
  • Obtains and prepares all equipment needed for transport of critically ill patients and assists in their transport.
  • Assists in lifting and positioning of patients.
  • Assists anesthetist during the induction of anesthesia as required.
  • Maintains all specialty carts in the department.
  • Setup and calibrate machines that are transported to outside areas.
  • Assists with inspection and repair of equipment.
  • Obtains used Medtronic Dual Channel Pacemakers.
  • Cleans pacemakers, changes battery and bags.
  • Ensures pacemakers turn on and are working properly.

Education:
