Position Summary:

The Anesthesia Technician (AT) will perform a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist attending Anesthesiologist, and Nurse Anesthetist in performing anesthetic procedures for patients. The AT will determine the correct supply and equipment needs based on the procedures to be performed. The AT will prepare anesthetizing locations for indicated procedures which includes setting up and calibrating monitoring devices, troubleshoot anesthesia equipment malfunctions, routing non-function equipment to the proper department for repair. The AT will assist anesthesia providers using aseptic or sterile technique with non-invasive and invasive patient procedures including peripheral and/or central intravenous and/or arterial line placement. The AT will assist providers with monitoring of patients notifying the provider of abnormal changes in vital signs and/or physical appearance of the patient. The AT will clean anesthesia machines, monitors and equipment. The AT performs functions as noted above and generally with an assigned patient load, but AT is ready and willing to assist co-workers with ANY nursing support function and across any case load including other units that may not be the normal primary work assignment.

All organizational staff, including this position, are specifically required as a condition of continued employment to make advance preparations for their families and pets in the event of weather emergencies such as Hurricanes and flooding threats. Any staff member can be determined as essential staff required to report to the facility during these events. In many cases this means reporting and sleeping at the facility before, during and after a weather emergency. By signing this job description, the staff member accepts this responsibility of readiness to report to work during any designated emergency staffing situation. CMC staff members operate as one team meeting the healthcare needs of our communities, thus this position will on occasion complete other duties as assigned beyond those designated in this primary job description which may include “float” coverage at an alternate facility, department or assignment

Qualifications
Education:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Associates degree in Biology Physiology, anatomy or other related scientific fields preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of one (1) year direct patient acute care as an MST, LPN or other related clinical experience preferred.
  • Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians Certification preferred.
Special Skills:
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing colleagues, physicians, and department heads required.
  • Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
