Job summary

Nicklaushealth seeks an Anesthesia Technician to support cardiac anesthesia and interventional teams. You will prepare for procedures, manage supplies, assist with airway equipment, and help with medications and blood gas testing in the cath lab.

The role requires BLS, 2-3 years in anesthesia tech, and 1-2 years in the cardiac interventional lab, with a focus on safety and QA/QI participation.

Qualifications

• American Heart Association BLS certification required and active throughout employment.
• 2-3 years of experience as Anesthesia Technician.
• 1-2 years working in the Cardiac Interventional Catheterization Lab.

Responsibilities

• Order, pick up, and stock medications in anesthesia carts and assist with medication preparation.
• Perform periodic inspections for medication outdates prior to expiration.
• Assist with patient care activities under the direction of Anesthesiologists.
• Prepare IVs and sterile trays for central line procedures; assist with blood gas testing.
• Prepare airway equipment for airway management and assist with intubation as directed.
• Cleans and checks all anesthesia equipment per Infection Control and manufacturer guidelines.
• Document and assist in department QA/QI programs and maintain proper data input.

Job Summary

Works under the direction of Cardiac Leaders to provide care to patients undergoing surgical intervention and to support the Anesthesiologists. Prepares for the procedures, providing supplies, assistance during the procedure, and post procedure clean up. Responsible for providing cost effective supply ordering, assists in the preparation, performance, and recording of invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular testing in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Job Specific Duties

• Accurately orders, picks up, and stocks medication in the anesthesia carts. Assist with medication preparation.
• Responsible for periodic inspections for medication outdates prior to expiration.
• Assist with patient care activities under the direction of the Anesthesiologists.
• Assist in placement of IVs & preparing sterile tray for central line placement procedures. Assist physicians with operating & run blood gases on blood samples using iStat machine and/or Hemocue.
• Preparing all airway equipment including endotracheal tubes, laryngoscope, glidscope, fiberoptic bronchoscope, and any other special equipment required by the Anesthesiologist.
• Assists Anesthesiologist with airway management including bag, mask ventilation, and endotracheal intubation
• Cleans, maintains, and safety checks all anesthesia equipment accordingly to Infection Control and Manufacturer guidelines.
• Teaches fellows, technicians & anesthesia assistants in specifics of the department including room setup, anesthesia machine maintenance/checks, all airway equipment & management, etc.
• Maintains and records inventory, ordering, receiving, and storing equipment and supplies. Maintains relationship with OR staff and Material Services to coordinate purchases.
• Maintains anesthesia supply room and OR's for cleanliness and neatness.
• Assists, participates, monitors, and documents in department QA/QI program.
• Control and maintain data input into Cardio Access Database.
• Maintains record of patient examination data and other pertinent Cath information.
• Completes and maintains cardiac catheterization records in hemodynamics system and imaging system.
• Prepares, organizes & selects the proper equipment necessary for the upcoming Cardiac Catheterization Lab procedure. Operates Cardiac Catheterization equipment as directed by the physician.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

• American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
• 2-3 years of experience as Anesthesia Technician
• 1-2 years working in the Cardiac Interventional Catheterization Lab

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High school education or equivalent preferred.
• Cardiovascular Technologist experience preferred.
• Certification from American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians preferred.
• PALS, ACLS certification preferred.
• Clinical/technical knowledge in cardiovascular medicine.
• Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions in dealing with patients and equipment.
