Job summary

The VA Hampton Healthcare System seeks a Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) to support the Anesthesiology Service. The MIT will operate invasive monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines, and ventilators, and assist with difficult procedures under supervision.

Candidates should have knowledge of arterial pressure waveforms, sterile technique, and anesthesia supplies. There is significant emphasis on safety and patient care in a high-stress operating room environment.

Qualifications

• Applicants pending completion of education/certification may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is desirable.
• Must meet VA qualification standards for the occupation.

Responsibilities

• Assists anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in difficult procedures.
• Operates invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines, ventilators, and related devices.
• Prepares and administers medications as directed by the attending physician.
• Mentors and trains lower graded staff and students in anesthesia technology procedures.
• Exhibits independent judgment in anesthesia technology duties.
