Job summary

WHOOP is seeking an Android Engineer II in Boston to design, build, and maintain Kotlin-based Android applications that integrate with backend services. Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of professional Android development experience.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin (and Java when necessary).
  • Experience with Android Jetpack libraries and modular architecture (MVVM/MVI).
  • Strong understanding of Android lifecycle, concurrency (Coroutines), and memory management.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Open to AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Kotlin-based Android applications across backend integrations.
  • Evolve shared Android frameworks and developer tooling for scalability.
  • Improve performance, reliability, and battery life; monitor issues and optimize.
  • Write secure, well-tested code and participate in design/code reviews.
  • Collaborate with product, backend, and infrastructure teams for end-to-end delivery.
  • Document architectural decisions and promote knowledge sharing.

Job description

  • The Healthcare team is responsible for building the mobile experiences that deliver personalized health insights and recommendations to WHOOP members. As an Android Engineer II on this team, you will develop native Android features that power health-focused experiences while contributing to the core systems that enable secure, reliable, and scalable product development
  • In this role, you will design and build Kotlin-based Android applications that integrate with backend services and APIs, collaborating closely with product, backend, and infrastructure teams to deliver seamless end-to-end experiences
  • You will help evolve shared Android frameworks and developer tooling, improve application performance and reliability, and build scalable, maintainable solutions using modern Android architecture and AI-assisted development workflows
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable Android features that integrate with WHOOP’s backend services and APIs
  • Collaborate with backend, infrastructure, and product teams to ensure seamless and performant end-to-end systems
  • Apply modern Android architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI) and modular design principles to support team scalability
  • Improve developer enablement by enhancing shared Android libraries, frameworks, and build tooling
  • Monitor app performance, debug complex issues, and optimize for speed, stability, and battery life
  • Write secure, well-tested code and participate in design and code reviews to maintain engineering excellence
  • Document technical decisions, architecture, and design to promote alignment and knowledge sharing
