Job summary

Cornell University in Ithaca, NY seeks a Research Associate in the Department of Entomology to lead analytical chemistry work on small molecule quantification. You will operate LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS, plan extractions, and train students.

Qualifications

• PhD or four years of equivalent training in chemistry, chemical ecology, ecotoxicology, or related sciences.
• Strong background in analytical chemistry, chromatography, and ecotoxicology.
• Excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
• Experience with MS Office and chromatography software (Chromeleon, TraceFinder).
• Ability to manage databases in Excel and perform basic statistical analyses in R.

Responsibilities

• Operate and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS for small-molecule quantification.
• Plan and assign work for chemical extraction and sample prep.
• Evaluate data quality and quantify known/unknowns using appropriate software.
• Summarize LC/GC data and communicate results to researchers and clients.
• Maintain and repair lab equipment and facilities; ensure safety compliance.
• Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in protocols.
• Write and revise manuscripts, grants, and lab protocols.
• Support overall lab operations and collaboration across CALS.
