Job summary

Liberty Utilities, part of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., is seeking an Analyst III, Tax in Joplin, MO. The role focuses on indirect tax compliance, reporting, and supporting key stakeholders with timely information. You will contribute to tax planning, audits, and cross‑functional budgeting activities.

The position requires 3+ years in corporate tax, strong knowledge of tax laws, and a Bachelor’s in Finance/Accounting. We offer a hybrid work environment and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of corporate tax experience.
• Knowledge of federal, state and municipal tax laws/regulations.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
• Proficient in MS Office; SAP or similar; Power Plan/Power Tax exposure preferred; Hyperion Smart-View preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assure accuracy and timeliness of tax return preparation and payment of taxes.
• Develop processes to ensure tax compliance performed accurately and timely.
• Lead tax team during audits of the Company’s tax compliance.
• Maintain relationships with outside taxing authorities and represent the Company’s tax needs.
• Conduct research related to tax laws to minimize liabilities while complying with regulations.
• Provide accurate information to other departments to facilitate budgeting and planning.

Purpose

The senior tax analyst will be primarily responsible for performing various tasks associated with the preparation of indirect taxes for compliance and reporting needs for the Central Region. They will also assist in providing information to support decisions by key stakeholders.

Accountabilities

• Assure the accuracy and timeliness of tax return preparation, payment of taxes and the maintenance of appropriate records
• Develop processes to ensure tax compliance performed accurately and timely
• Participate as a lead member of the tax team to assure that indirect taxes are properly reflected in the accounting records of the company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable tax laws and regulations
• Participate as a lead member during audits of the Company’s tax compliance
• Maintain good relationships with outside taxing authorities while representing the Company’s tax needs and issues
• Conduct research related to tax laws and regulations to minimize tax liabilities while complying with those laws and regulations
• Provide accurate and timely information to other departments to facilitate budgeting, planning, reporting and ratemaking activities
• Perform other tax related special projects as needed

Education and Experience

• 3+ years of experience in corporate tax
• Knowledge of the applicable federal, state and municipal tax laws/regulations
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economic or related field
• Proficient in the use of MS office products; SAP or similar; Power Plan and Power Tax exposure preferred; Hyperion smart-view preferred
• Excellent communication skills (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills to effectively work with other team members and different departments

Compensation Data

Full base salary range $80,000.00- $110,000.00 per year*Liberty considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education, training and skills, and geographic location.
