Job summary

LABTECH DIAGNOSTICS in Texas is seeking an Analyst to perform routine and specialized laboratory testing with accuracy and efficiency. You will support specimen processing, testing, reporting and records, and adhere to QC procedures and CAP/CLIA standards.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, inventory, safety compliance, and performing moderate/high complexity tox testing as an internally certified analyst; you will also assist in quality improvement initiatives and training.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or laboratory science from an accredited university.
  • Compliance with CLIA & CAP High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and laboratory information systems.
  • OSHA Category I tasks involving exposure to blood and body fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests authorized by the Medical Laboratory Director.
  • Follows all laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, result reporting and the maintenance of accurate records.
  • Analyze clinical specimens using approved testing methodologies in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintains and calibrates laboratory instrumentation and performs minor repairs as needed.
  • Inventories reagents and supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Adheres to quality assurance and quality control programs and participates in proficiency testing.

Job description

The Analyst is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory testing with accuracy and efficiency. This role ensures the integrity of specimen processing, testing, reporting and recordkeeping while adhering to quality control procedures and regulatory standards. The Analyst also supports ongoing laboratory operations through equipment maintenance, inventory management and compliance with safety protocols. The Analyst must be internally certified to perform moderate and high complexity toxicology tests within the requirements of the College of American Pathologist (CAP).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs laboratory tests authorized by the Medical Laboratory Director.
  • Follows all laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, result reporting and the maintenance of accurate records.
  • Analyze clinical specimens using approved testing methodologies in accordance with the established laboratory protocols.
  • Performs maintenance, procedures, experiments and analyses, data collection, method development and validation in support of drug confirmation, metals and hormones analysis in blood, urine and/or other matrices.
  • Recognizes deviations from expected results and initiates proper follows up procedures.
  • Evaluates and solves problems related to the collection and processing of specimens.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, cleans and performs minor repairs of all laboratory instrumentation.
  • Creates and certifies controls and calibrators.
  • Adheres strictly to the laboratory's quality assurance and quality control policies and participation internal and external quality programs.
  • Demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are handled in the same manner as patient specimens, maintaining related documentation.
  • Inventories reagents and supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Handles hazardous materials, reagents and chemicals in a safe manner in accordance to laboratory policy and procedure.
  • Washes laboratory glassware and maintains general laboratory cleanliness.
  • Exercises and maintains levels of competence, integrity and interpersonal skills necessary to attain regulatory and quality goals.
  • Supports and participates in Department initiatives regarding quality system implementation, maintenance, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Complete and maintain training on OSHA, HIPPA, Blood Borne Pathogens, First Aid and other required safety protocols on an annual basis.
  • Perform additional tasks and special projects as directed by the Laboratory Medical Director.
Required Skills/Education:
  • BS or MS in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or laboratory science from an accredited university
