Job summary

Daifuku Automotive America Corporation in Novi, MI seeks an Electrical Estimator II to estimate costs for Electrical and Controls portions of material handling systems for automotive manufacturing lines, including EMS, P&F conveyors, and lifts. You will work with sales and engineering to develop bids and specifications, interfacing with customer engineers on requirements.

The role requires experience in industrial electrical design, familiarity with Rockwell PLC/HMI, AutoCAD, and strong

Qualifications

  • Experience in system design and implementation in industrial/manufacturing environments, automotive preferred.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell PLC and HMI components; experience with other manufacturers a plus.
  • Strong estimating skills for Electrical and Controls portions of material handling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate costs for Electrical and Controls portion of material handling systems and total system cost.
  • Assist in design and development of new conveyor systems and standard cost evaluations.
  • Define electrical components to be used in electrical control systems.
  • Assist Sales/Technical Service with bid proposal development.
  • Interface with customer engineers to translate requirements into technical specifications.
  • Identify lowest-cost material handling alternatives meeting customer requirements (VA/VE).
  • Present material handling solutions to customer engineers.
  • Visit customer sites for pre-bid and proposal development.
  • Overtime and travel as required.

Responsibilities

Estimation of Main Line Materials Handling Systems (body welding, paint & assembly) for automotive manufacturing lines. The materials handling systems include Electrified Monorail System (EMS), Power & Free conveyors (P&F), Skillet conveyors (Platform), Slat Chain conveyors, Vertical Lifts and Parts Carriers. Performs estimation analysis to develop reliable and optimum material handling systems based on best engineering practice or customer requirements.

Other Responsibilities

  • Estimate costs for Electrical and Controls portion of material handling systems, and generate the total cost of the system by incorporating controls and installations costs.
  • Assist in design and development of new conveyor systems, equipment and standard cost evaluations for new conveyor and equipment.
  • Define electrical components to be used in an electrical control system.
  • Assist Sales or Technical Service with the complete bid proposal development.
  • Interface with customer engineers when gathering system requirements, then translating the requirement to functional technical specifications.
  • Investigate and provide lowest cost material handling alternatives, which meet customer requirements (VA/VE).
  • Make technical presentations of material handling solutions to customer engineers.
  • Visit customer sites for pre-bid and proposal development.
  • Overtime required when the due date for quote has to be met.
  • Travel as required.
  • Assist in supplier assessment and business sourcing.
Qualifications
  • Must have experience in system design and implementation in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Automotive manufacturing, strongly preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of Rockwell PLC and HMI components. Experience with other manufacturers is a plus (Mitsubishi, Omron, GE, Siemens...).
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems and experience with material handling equipment.
  • Strong skills and experience in estimating total costs for Electrical and Controls portion of material handling systems. Experience in bid proposals a plus.
  • Must be able to perform engineering studies to develop reliable and optimum systems based on our automotive customer's requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of electrical WDs and system layout drawings.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD (2000 or higher), Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards (National Electric Code, ANSI, OSHA, NFPA 79, and UL508A).
  • Experience with Automotive Customer Specifications.
  • Experience communicating regular status to clients, superiors, and peers.
  • Basic experience writing hardware specifications.
  • Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Must be self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Education: BS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience: 2-6 years experience in Electrical Engineering and control systems design.
