Job description

About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the leading platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain AI hires and contracts specialists for projects that help shape how modern AI systems understand and communicate complex subjects.

As an OpenTrain contractor, you can apply your expertise to emerging AI systems while building a clear, portable professional profile. Creating an OpenTrain account is free, and applications can be completed in minutes.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Expert contributors review model outputs, assess technical reasoning, identify errors, and provide scientifically grounded feedback that helps AI systems become more accurate and useful.

This work is remote and flexible, making it possible to contribute part time while applying specialized knowledge directly to cutting-edge technology.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an AMO Physics AI Training Expert to support AI training work involving atomic and optical properties. You will assess and improve how AI systems reason about specialized physics topics through expert analysis, critique, and clear scientific communication.

This role is suited to a physics specialist with experience in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, optical properties of materials, and atomic-structure calculations. The engagement is part time, with less than 20 hours per week, and is available in the listed countries.

  • Contractor and part-time engagement
  • Less than 20 hours per week
  • English-language work
  • Hourly compensation of $100 to $200 USD
What You'll Do

You will evaluate technical reasoning and communicate complex scientific concepts in a structured written and verbal format. Your work will focus on advanced atomic-physics calculations and the interpretation of relevant spectra.

When providing examples, use information from research or projects that you are legally permitted to share.

  • Review and discuss ab initio configuration interaction methods used to calculate polarizability in atomic systems
  • Analyze and critique atomic-structure calculations involving the Yb-171 and Yb-174 isotopes
  • Identify and explain sigma and pi transitions in relevant atomic spectra
  • Apply physical principles to evaluate technical reasoning
  • Provide clear, concrete examples from legally shareable research or projects
  • Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly in written and verbal formats
Requirements

This position requires advanced physics knowledge and direct experience with specialized atomic-structure methods. The source listing identifies the experience level as entry level, but the technical requirements call for advanced subject-matter expertise or equivalent experience.

  • Advanced degree in Physics or equivalent experience, focused on AMO physics or optical properties of materials
  • Advanced knowledge of atomic, molecular, and optical physics or optical properties of materials
  • Proven experience with ab initio configuration interaction methods for atomic polarizability
  • Experience evaluating atomic-structure calculations for Yb-171 and Yb-174 isotopes
  • Strong understanding of atomic-structure computation techniques for ytterbium isotopes
  • Ability to distinguish and explain sigma versus pi transitions in atomic contexts
  • Clear, structured written and verbal communication of complex scientific concepts
Who Should Apply

Apply if you can connect rigorous AMO physics expertise with careful evaluation of AI-generated technical reasoning. This opportunity may be a strong fit for a physics specialist who enjoys explaining difficult concepts, identifying subtle scientific issues, and helping improve emerging AI systems.

The role is designed for a flexible, part-time commitment and is open to qualified candidates in the listed countries.

  • AMO physics specialists
  • Researchers experienced with atomic-structure calculations
  • Experts in polarizability and configuration interaction methods
  • Physicists familiar with ytterbium isotopes and atomic spectra
  • Clear scientific communicators interested in AI training
